3K
Three-Year-Olds Program in Astoria, New York
Our age-appropriate curriculum for our three-year-olds is centered on developing them in the aspects of language, literacy, mathematics, and science. At the same time, we continue to guide their progress in terms of physical, emotional, and social development.
Our school hosts 2 New York Department of Education 3k for All classes. Our 3K classes follow the DOE 3k Explorations instructional outline. These explorations provide instructional opportunities for staff, children, and families to connect, explore materials, and learn together. Play-based learning is dominant across all learning domains.
Topics and activities in Explorations begin with routines and classroom community. Throughout the year, your children will be exposed to more abstract ideas that align with their development.
Explorations are grounded in research on developmental expectations that are described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five (ELOF). This framework outlines the skills, behaviors, and concepts that programs, like ours, foster in the classroom when they engage with our youngest learners.
The following are the three Explorations that are used in our 3k classrooms:
- Exploration One: Our Community
- Exploration Two: Our Environment
- Exploration Three: Our Impact
