One of the most common places that children can get injured is at home. The home is supposed to be the safest place for its occupants. However, because children can be energetic and rowdy, safety issues can be overlooked. Here are a few things you could do to better childproof your home, preschool, and daycare.
- Cover Table Edges. Commonly overlooked safety issues are table edges. Young children love to run around and explore, table edges can be a hazard for them, especially because they haven’t fully developed spatial awareness yet. There are many solutions for this, the most common are rubber or silicone caps which are placed on the table edges to cover the edge.
- Plug Unused Electrical Sockets. Buying socket covers for your unused electrical sockets is a good way to make sure your child can never stick something in it or play with the socket. This will help avoid burn injuries and prevent your children from getting shocked by electricity.
- Install Safety Gates. To prevent falls, installing safety gates at the bottom and top of your stairs, especially with young children in the house is a good way to stop them from being able to access the stairs. For young children who have not yet completely developed their motor skills, the stairs is a very dangerous place.
- Install Non-Slip Mats. If you have surfaces that tend to slide, such as rugs, installing non-slip mats beneath it will ensure that your children will never accidentally slip while running around the house.
